Liturgical Ministries

The liturgy is the source and summit of Christian life at St. Ann's. We gather together every Sunday, on Holy Days of obligation, and on special occasions to celebrate our response to God's action in our daily lives. Liturgy is truly the work of the people at St. Ann's. Over one hundred and thirty parishioners are involved in the following eight liturgical ministries:

The Ministry of Altar Server assists the priest and assembly by carrying liturgical objects and performing special actions during the Mass. Approximately 40 boys and girls in grades 5 through 12 receive training to assist the presiding priest during the celebration of the Sunday Mass. They may also assist at Holy Days, weddings, and funerals. Contact Parish Office, 375-2110.

The Altar Society provides clean altar linens used in our liturgical celebrations. The organization is committed to the care and beautification of the sanctuary and church by maintaining altar linens, freshening flowers, and replenishing holy water fonts.

The Ministry of Environment advances the theme of our celebrations by using their artistic talents to decorate the Church with flowers, banners, and objects. Members prepare the Church for liturgical seasons by creating and arranging decorations. The liturgical seasons of Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter are particularly busy times for this group. Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist assist the presiding priest with the distribution of the sacramental Body and Blood of Christ to the gathered assembly. Lay men and women are chosen by the Pastor to assist in distributing the Eucharist at Mass. Each Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharistic is chosen to serve for a period of about two years, permitting many at St. Ann's to participate in this important ministry. After being selected, training is provided. About 24 to 30 parishioners are active Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharistic at any one time. Contact: The Parish Office: 375-2110.

The Ministry of Lectors proclaims the Word of God to our gathered assembly through their reading from Sacred Scriptures. The Liturgy of the Word consists of two parts: (1) Readings from scripture and responsorial psalms between the readings and (2) the priest's homily, a profession of faith and general intercessions or prayer. Men and women lectors, spiritually and technically trained for this ministry, usually read two scriptures at each Sunday Mass. This ministry is open to all baptized Catholics at St. Ann's with the necessary training. About 24 to 30 members of St. Ann's participate in this ministry at any given time. The Music Ministry leads the people's responses in giving thanks and praise to the Lord through instrumental music and song. St. Ann's enjoys the talents of two separate choirs, as well as talented individuals during the three weekend Masses. Almost 30 people lend their talents to playing instruments and singing. All who enjoy singing or playing an instrument are welcome to join the Music Ministry.

  • Alternating between the 5:30 p.m. Vigil (Saturday) and 8:00 a.m. (Sunday) Masses, a Mass Choir, directed by Gino La Marca, sings traditional hymns. Practice is each Thursday at 7 p.m. in the church.
  • The 10:30 a.m. Mass is shared by three groups. They sing contemporary music selections.

The Ministry of Ushers promotes an environment of hospitality in carrying out their activities of seating the assembly, and collecting and bringing forward our offerings. Ushers are men and women parishioners who provide a welcoming, hospitable atmosphere at all parish liturgies. They ensure the orderly progress of the liturgies by seating parishioners and guests, identifying people to bring the gifts to the altar, taking the collection, directing people toward the altar for communion and blessings, and distributing the parish bulletin.
