6th Grade
Language Arts-In Literature, this week's selection is “Zlatch the Goat”. It connects to the unit theme showing the interdependence of people and animals. The Spelling/Vocabulary this week is based on this selection and the test will be on Thursday, March 24th.
Outside Reading: “Where the Red Fern Grows”, students have completed all notebook requirements for Chapters 1-9 and may do additional reading over Easter Break.
Social Studies- Students continue in Chapter 8, Ancient India, Lesson 3 “Beginning of Buddhism” and will be able to explain the basic beliefs of Buddhism including the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path.
Religion-Sixth Grade is completing Chapter 14 on “God Forgives Us” and will complete the quiz for Chapter 14 on Tuesday, March 22nd. This week our main concentration is on the Easter Triduum.
Science- Students will finish their fresh water unit this week. They will be learning about using water wisely, the stages of treatment for water and how ground water can be both a renewable and nonrenewable resource. There will be a lab test on Thursday.
Math- This week students will continue to work on geometric figures. Students will be learning about volume and revisiting the concepts of surface area, perimeter and circumference.
PE - Students will continue to play games in their Soccer Unit.

7th Grade
Language Arts-In Literature, the selection is “All Summer in a Day” by Ray Bradbury. The objectives in this selection are:
· to understand and appreciate a short story about a little girl who is different from her classmates
· to enrich reading by identifying contrasts
· to identify and understand metaphor and simile.
The Spelling/Vocabulary list this week is based on the above selection. The test will be on Thursday, March 24th.
Outside Reading: “Dragonwings” quiz on chapters 6-8 on Monday, March 21st. Students complete the reading of Chapters 9-10 by Tuesday, April 5th.
Social Studies- Students continue in Chapter 11, “Europe: Rule, Religion, and Conflict” with the Lesson 2 “The Byzantine Empire”. Students will:
· identify Constantinople's geographical advantage of land and sea trade
· describe the role of the emperor in the Byzantine Empire, and
compare and contrast Christian churches in the East and the West.
Religion-Students will finish viewing the video about Maximillian Kolbe, the Polish Priest who was incarcerated and died at Auschwitz. They will complete a writing assignment about Fr. Kolbe - what he was trying to accomplish, the difficulties he faced and how he overcame them, and why they believe he was declared a saint of the Church.
*Writing assignment about Fr. Kolbe due on Thursday.
Science- Students will be wrapping up invertebrates. This week's focus will be on learning the four main characteristic and body parts of arthropods, the main characteristics of echinoderms and invertebrates water vascular system. There will be a lab test over the chapter on Thursday.
Math- This weeks focus will be on choosing the correct equation using either monomials or polynomials, and scientific equations.
PE - Students will continue to play games in their Soccer Unit.

8th Grade
Language Arts-In Literature, this week's selection is from “Gifted Hands”. The objectives to be met are:
· to understand specialized medical vocabulary and
· to identify and understand an autobiography.
The Spelling/Vocabulary list this week is based on the above selection. The test will be on Thursday, March 24th.
Social Studies- Students will review Chapter 8 and test on Chapter 8 on Tuesday, March 22nd. Students will begin Chapter 9 “The North” building their knowledge first in the “Industrial Revolution”.

Science- Students will be wrapping up the periodic table this week. They will be leaning about the grouping of elements and the properties of the elements in the groups of the periodic table. There will be a lab test over the chapter on Thursday.
Math-This week students will continue to factor polynomial. The new focus will be on using the formula ax2 + bx + c.
PE - Students will continue to play games in their Soccer Unit.
Health - There will be no health class this week because of the 11:30 dismissal.

General Notes:
Parent-Teacher conferences are this week. Please remember that because of this there will be an 11:30 dismissal all week. There is no school Friday, March 25th through Friday; April 1st. School will resume on Monday, April 4th.
Students will be learning about Passover and taking part in a Seder Meal on Wednesday.
